Simple and Innovative Ways to Save Money!
Now more than ever, we are becoming more conscious of our spending habits as well as conservation of the environment around us. Below is a list of simple things that you can do that will greatly impact your piggy bank as well as the environment.
* Use shopping bags as garbage bags. My family has not bought a single trash bag in over 15 years. We keep every single shopping bag that we ever get. Most of them are the same size so we use them for the kitchen, bathroom, and even the bedroom trashcans. The smaller bags we will use to carry something somewhere or for when we have something that needs to go out to the main trash immediately. Using shopping bags helps reduce waste as well as puts money in your pocket!
*Reuse ziploc bags. Ziploc bags can get expensive overtime. We try not to use them a lot, but we do use them from time to time. Once a ziploc bag has been used, it is put in the dishes pile so that it can be washed. Once it is hand washed (we have never put them in the dishwasher so I don't know how safe that is), then it can be set to the side to dry. We always open the bag, and set it upside down with the opening facing the bottom and let it drip dry. You can always hand dry it yourself. Just keep an eye on your bags to make sure that there are no holes or that it is getting to grumy to keep.
* Storage containers. We always try to make meals that last for at least two meals. One of the ways that we store certain foods is in plastic storage containers. Every once in a while we will buy lunchmeat that is in a plastic storage container. Often times it will even be in a Glad storage container. We keep an eye on the prices of these and will use coupons to buy them when they go on sale so that we save the maximum amount. Once the lunchmeat is consumed, we clean the storage container and use them like we would other containers. It depends on the durability of the container as to what we will use it for. If it is really strong and durable, we will use it for left over meats, vegetables, etc. If it is not as durable, we will use it for leftover biscuits, muffints, etc. We have these containers all over the house for simple things such as twisties, rubberbands, candy, etc. Once they get to a point that they are not reusable, we recycle them and get more.
*Save twist ties and rubber bands. We have not bought twist ties and rubber bands in years! Buy loaves of bread and bagels? Keep the ties! Anytime you buy something or receive something that comes with a tie, keep it so that it can be used for something else later. Receive a package or buy something that has rubber bands holding it together? Keep the rubber bands! You can use them to help hold things together when you travel, help hold paperwork together, or even to help store things. Simple things like twist ties and rubber bands add up over time! Great way to keep money in your pocket!
*Use cloth napkins. I have not bought paper napkins in the last 2 years. It took some time, but my family finally switched from paper to cloth and it has saved us money ever since. Washing a load of clothes, sheets, or towels? Throw the used cloth napkins in with the load! The Sierra Club reported that "If a family of four used cloth napkins at every meal for a year, they would save 4,380 paper napkins from the landfill". What better way to combine saving money and reducing landfill than this? It is so easy! You can find cloth napkins just about anywhere. I bought some of mine from the clearance section at Tuesday Morning and at JcPenney! If you check the clearance sections at stores and pay attention to coupons as well, you can increase the savings!

Coupon TipsI absolutely love to coupon! I also like to bargain shop. Combining those two elemets literally helps my family save thousands of dollars a year on things that we are normally buying. Overtime I will share personal stories of shopping trips and things that I have done to help give you an idea of things that you can do to save money. My first main tip is that if you want or need something, I guarantee that someone somewhere will have it on sale at some point. If you keep an eye out, you can find a coupon as well! Compare prices different places. It can be easily down with the click of a button.
Coupons are everywhere you turn! They can be found in your newspaper, ads, magazines, online, in stores, and even on your products that you buy! One great thing about using coupons is that you can stack! Stacking is when you use more than one coupon on the same item. Now, before you get excited, pay attention. You will first need to find out whether your store allows stacking. Some do not, and you would not want to cause a problem. You can find out by looking at their policies online, calling customer service, or even speaking with a store manager. So, how do you stack? Here is an example: Let's say you are buying a bottle of lotioin and Walgreens had a coupon for $0.50 off of that particular brand of lotion. You also have a $0.25 off of that particular brand of lotion that is a manufactur coupon. You can use them together and save $0.75! There are countless ways to do it, but that is just an example. I have heard of people doing this at Walgreens and several other stores. | Coupon LinksOver time I will add links to coupons for items that you may need or may be interested in. Please keep an eye out on compairing prices.
